Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR)

SAR image data can be used for numerous applications.

These applications are dependent on the SAR system’s specifications in terms of frequency and polarisation(s).

Examples of application areas are soil moisture distribution, near-surface salinity mapping, geology (such as oil exploration) and study of geomorphic processes and features (e.g. coastal waterline mapping), hydrology (e.g. flood mapping), forestry (e.g. biomass assessment), agriculture (such as crop condition and yield estimation), terrain mapping, archaeology, and landscape analysis (e.g. dead tree mapping).

These are only a few examples of application areas with more to come as the field of imaging radar expands.Learn more about the basics of SAR.
